Smiles

Any day is a happy day
If you have watched a bluebird fly
From branches of a tall green elm
Into the shining azure sky.

Any day is a happy day
If you have seen a sun-bright flower
And said a prayer of thankfulness
For God's abundant peace and power.

Any day is a happy day
If you have helped someone to share
A lifting love of God and say
A hushed and holy prayer.

The Gift Of A Smile

A dog cannot smile,
Yet I know when he's happy
For he gently wags his tail
Instead of being snappy.

A bird cannot smile,
Still I hear his joy,
Coming from the song
He sends me to enjoy.

But a man can smile.
And smile and smile each day,
For the gift of a smile
Is his to give away.
Belle Broadbent

We never lost a joy we once have known,
We never lose a love so tender grown,
We never lose a smile whose seed was sown
Deep in our hearts.
Earthly life may pass,
But 'tis not lived in vain...
Joy, love and smiles live on forever
Just the same.

Two Smiles

I smiled at a child this morning,
And the smile that came back to me
Was so sweet; and as refreshing
As ever a smile could be.

To me it was such a blessing
Her dear little face to see;
When I smiled at a child this morning
And she smiled back at me.

Her sweet smiling face at the window
In my memory long I'll see;
Since I smiled ar a child in passing
And her smile came to me.

Only two smiles flashed between us
In a fleeting instant of time;
Yet mine carried gladness to her heart
And hers beamed a blessing to mine.

A face is a thing that gives you away;
The expression you wear can spoil a day.
One smile and the sun comes out on your lips,
One frown and the whole world suddenly tips
Upside down...with clouds where the sun should be...
A face can do things for you and me,
The cleverest people wear masks, I'm told;
The sad can be gay, the young can look old,
Doubt and wisdom can mix beautifully,
A face like a valentine's poetry
Can etch a warm heart or paint a cold war...
A face can be dull or bright as a star,
It's the power to cast a magic spell,
My advice to you is wear it well!
