Daisies
Within the human heart,
The memory recalls the joy
That daisies can impart,
Tiny girls painstakingly
Braid dasies in their hair,
Or weave them into chains which they
Insist they have to wear,
How many little boys have picked
A gold and white bouquet
Which loving mothers rearranged
for prominent display?
The game of "love me, love me not"
Is played with petals white,
But daisies never, never tell
Which answer may be right.
Daisies have a heart of gold...
I guess that must be why
They grow profusely everywhere
In fields that meet the sky,

Quiet Places
I will not hurry through this day!
Lord, I will listen by the way
To humming bees and singing birds,
To murmuring trees and friendly words,
And for the moments in between
Seek glimpses of Thy great Unseen.
I will not hurry through this day,
I will take time to think and pray.
I will look up into the sky
Where fleecy clouds and swallows fly,
And somewhere in the day, maybe
I will catch whispers, Lord, from Thee!

Mountain Valley
I know a valley, a quiet green dream,
That's threaded by a mountain stream
Where beaver dwell. Their dams have tamed
The creek's wild rush to an even flow,
Where in the twilight's pearly glow,
On dainty feet, down to the water's brink,
With twitching ears alert, the deer come to drink.
Among the grass, wild flowers blow,
Bright shooting stars like jewels glow.
I drowse in blissful, warm content
Beneath the sky's blue canopy,
And watch the clouds sail lazily.
How alien is the world and all its care
Within my mountain valley,
Quiet and green and fair.

Nature's Beauty
How beautiful the woodlands are
As autumn days unfold,
When maple leaves have turned to red,
And poplars, brightest gold.
When stately firs and lofty pines
Are standing proud and green,
There is no beauty to compare
When nature paints a scene.
How lovely just to wander down
A shaded, leafy trail,
To pause beside a little brook
Where colored leaf-boats sail...
To watch them gently drift along
To some secluded pool,
Where each one is reflected
In the water, clear and cool.
Though nature's beauty may surround us,
It's unseen by troubled eyes,
With the daily care of living,
Without thought, we pass it by...
But to those who are discerning,
Nature's beauties never ceasr,
And in its solitude they find
Quiet strength and sweetest peace.
