I'm going to board a dream today,
And sail off on a cloud,
And drift to the end of a saffron sky
Where the sentries rightly proud
Push back the thin prismatic bars to let a dreamer in.
I'm going to sit where the dawn drips gold,
And watch the day begin
With quiet sifted generously on
Mountain slope and plain.
Where shepherds rouse their drowsy sheep
With prodding staff and cane.
I'm going to slide down the golden shafts
Of sunbeams through the trees,
And kiss the cheek of each sleeping child
And rout the bumblebees.
And when the sun reflects high noon,
And the South to siesta goes,
I'll curl myself in the perfumed depths
Of a cool white rambler rose,
And all the lazy afternoon I'll watch
A spider spin
A patient web of flimsy lace,
And in the evening pin
The twilight with a studded star;
Then draw nights jeweled shroud.
Oh, I'm going to board a dream today
